After two years off, the Wings Over North Georgia Airshow returns to Rome’s Richard B. Russell Regional Airport this fall.

According to John Cowman, President of JCL AirShow Management, he anticipates that the runway extension at the airport will be completed before the show, which is October 17-19.

He explained what the extension would mean for the air show in the future.

“We will be able to pick up a lot of the Air Force fast movers such as the F-15 and the F-16,  you know a lot of the fast-moving jets in the the military inventory that we couldn’t do before,” he said. “Some of the bigger refueling planes will be able to land there too. So, this extra thousand feet, bringing it to 7000 feet overall, is really going to be a big help to us from a show standpoint.”

The headliner for this year’s show will be the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, flying the “Super Hornets.”

“We’re very excited to welcome them back to Rome for a fourth time,” Cowman said. “Then we have a full complement of additional acts, both military and civilian that we will be bringing in to complement the Blue Angels and their performances.”
