NWGA School Closings announced for Tuesday

January 20th, 2025 – 8:00 PM

WRGA Staff Reports –

The following Schools have announced closures for Tuesday, January 21st, 2025:

“After a recent weather update and out of an abundance of caution, Rome City Schools will move to an Independent Learning Day for staff and students tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 21, in keeping in line with our Keeping Schools Safe Initiative. Students and staff don’t report to school. There will be no after-school activities on Tuesday. Please stay safe and remain weather-aware during this time. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff. #ReimagineRCS”

Floyd County Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, following information provided this evening by Georgia Emergency Management officials. While current weather forecasts suggest precipitation will remain south of Floyd County, the potential for a shift in weather patterns, combined with freezing temperatures, could create hazardous travel conditions later in the day. Given that Georgia is currently under a State of Emergency, we are prioritizing student safety in making this decision. We recognize the inconvenience this closure may cause for families, but please know that student well-being is at the core of every decision we make. We will continue to closely monitor the situation with Georgia Emergency Management officials and provide updates as needed. A decision regarding Wednesday, January 22, 2025, will be made once more information is available. Additionally, all afternoon and extracurricular activities will proceed as scheduled. Thank you for your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students and community. Stay warm and be safe!”

“Due to the State of Emergency now in effect and the uncertainty surrounding the possibility for winter weather conditions to develop during the school day, Polk School District will be closed Tuesday, January 21, 2025, as part of our commitment to ensuring the safety of our students and staff. We appreciate your understanding and partnership. Stay safe and warm.”

Gordon County Schools will be closed Tuesday, January 21st, 2025. Due to the latest weather forecast predicted by GEMA for potential precipitation in the northwest Georgia region, all schools in the district will be closed on Tuesday. This precaution is to ensure the safety of our students, employees, and families in unpredictable weather. We will continue to work with local agencies to monitor the weather forecast for the rest of the week. Families will be promptly notified through our communication channels. Stay warm and safe tomorrow!”

“In light of Governor Brian Kemp’s state of emergency declaration and the potential for inclement weather, the Bartow County School System has decided to cancel school and extracurricular activities on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Only 12 months or 236 employees should report to work. Please note that this will not be a digital learning day, so students will not have any assignments or online work to complete. We hope this allows your family to stay safe and warm at home during this unpredictable weather event.”

Chattooga County Schools: “Dear Parents and Guardians, We hope this message finds you well. Please be advised that we have been closely monitoring the current weather conditions. The potential for any precipitation that might cause dangerous travel conditions will remain south of us. While we are not expecting travel concerns, please be aware that temperatures are expected to remain extremely cold. We strongly recommend that all students come to school dressed in appropriate winter clothing, including hats, gloves, jackets, and scarves. For those students who ride the bus, we have asked our bus drivers to extend the stop times at each pick-up location. This will allow students to wait indoors until the bus arrives. If your child must stand outside at a bus stop, please ensure they are dressed warmly, and consider sending them to the stop so they are not standing outside for a long period. Additionally, we want to assure you that our principals, teachers, and staff will be present at the schools each morning to warmly welcome parents who choose to drive their children to school. Our team is committed to providing a safe and friendly environment for both students and their families, and we look forward to seeing you all Tuesday. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep our students safe and warm. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
