Man charged in theft of tip jar

A South Rome man is accused of taking the tip jar from a local restaurant.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

33-year-old Deqwan Keith Stafford took the jar containing $400 in cash and change from Chef Chen on Riverbend Drive on October 26.

The next day he was found with a pipe in his pocket.

Stafford is charged with theft by taking and possession of drug-related objects.

He remained in jail on Tuesday with bond set at $2,600.

Sex offender accused of failing to register change of address

A 68-year-old Rome man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with violating Georgia’s Sex Offender Registry law.

According to the warrant:

Robert George Coots failed to notify the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office within 72 hours of his move from Battey Drive back in August.

He also failed to register 72 hours prior to his birth date, according to the report.

Warrant: Man violated TPO by texting victim

Bond has been denied for a 50-year-old Rome man following his arrest Monday on a felony aggravated stalking charge.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Michael David Ridings violated a temporary protective order by sending a text message to the victim.
