On Wednesday afternoon, Floyd 911 Dispatch received a report of a collision involving a red Hyundai Elantra and a transfer truck near the intersection of Highway 53 and Georgia 140, just north of Shannon.
According to Floyd County Police Public Information Officer Mike Bell, both vehicles were traveling westbound on Highway 53 when both attempted to make a left turn. The Elantra struck the rear side of the transfer truck’s trailer, sustaining severe damage.
Emergency responders extricated the driver of the Elantra and transported them to the hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
Traffic in the area was temporarily affected as Floyd County police conducted an investigation.
