Late Thursday night, the Rome Floyd Fire Department and Rome Police Department responded to a trench collapse on Coosawattee Avenue near the Circle K off Shorter Avenue.
At the scene, Rome Floyd Fire Division Chief Jamie Stone provided preliminary information, confirming that emergency units were dispatched around 11:30 PM following a report of a traumatic injury.
A Heavy Rescue unit along with GSAR Search and Rescue Task Force 6 was requested to come to the scene.
Two workers trapped in the trench were extricated and transported by Floyd Atrium EMS for treatment.
The nature of the injuries was not disclosed at the scene.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation, and this information may change as more details emerge.
