Employment up, jobless claims down in Rome

The number of jobs rose in Floyd County in September, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

The labor force in the Rome area was at 48,000 last month, up by 200 from the 47,800 reported in August.

That number was also up by 500 when compared to September of 2023.

There were 156 first-time claims for unemployment insurance in the Rome area last month, down from 185 in August. There were 272 filed in September of last year.

Looking at other counties:

Bartow County had 170 claims, down from 188 over the month, and from 197 over the year.

Gordon County reported 275 claims in September, which was up from 120 in August, and 228 in September of last year.

Chattooga County’s 77 initial claims were up from 33 over the month. There were 220 in September of 2023.

Polk County reported 68 claims, down from 101 the month before, and from 92 last September.
