Floyd County students return to class Thursday, new traffic pattern at Armuchee High

Wednesday, July 31, 2024–12:30 p.m.

-Staff reports-

It’s back to school Thursday morning for students in the Floyd County School System.

Floyd County Police are reminding the public to be mindful of increased traffic around the schools during the morning and afternoon.

You may even want to take an alternate route to avoid school zones.

In addition, there is a change in traffic patterns at Armuchee High School for the 2024-2025 school year.

Car rider traffic will follow the same flow as last year, but students will be dropped off and picked up IN FRONT of the office.

Most of the student drivers will park in the front student parking lot as usual.

Busses will drop off and pick up in the same area as well.

At 3:10 when students are dismissed, student drivers (if parked in the front lot) will exit to the left or the right.

Student drivers who are parked in the back lot will exit beside the field house onto Old Summerville Road. Car riders will report to the front office side of the school and remain under the awnings until their ride pulls up.

These cars will follow the loop behind the school and back around to the front where they will pick their student up.

With the addition of 6th grade on the campus, school officials say they will do their very best to have each student dropped off and picked up in a timely manner with extra help directing traffic.

They ask for everyone’s patience and if the process needs to be adjusted, they will make those changes and let the community know.
