Floyd County officials have identified the man found floating in Armuchee Creek Wednesday afternoon after his body was reported by a passerby.

The body of Alfred Franklin Trapp Jr., 64, was found floating face down in Armuchee Creek, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Chris Giles. Trapp was a long-time resident of the Armuchee area.

Police were on the scene just north of Turkey Mountain Road around 3 p.m. Wednesday but the terrain initially made it difficult to access the area and remove the body from the area.

Trapp’s body had been in the water for several days, Giles said, and his shoes, socks, T-shirt and cellphone were located on the bank of the creek nearby.

Foul play is not suspected, according to Giles, but the body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for autopsy.
