A homeless man is facing charges after he allegedly kicked at and threatened a Rome Police Officer on Monday.

According to Floyd County Jail records and a Rome Police Department report:

Officers were initially dispatched to 241 Broad Street about a suspicious person in the bushes.

That person left, but officers then spotted 62-year-old Bobby Joe Barber asleep in a corner near the business door.

Barber had previously been banned from the business.

Once an officer woke him up, Barber began cursing and took one of two bags that was lying around him, slamming it on a table and spilling a red cup containing an alcoholic beverage.

He then tried to walk away, but police caught up to him and put him in handcuffs.

That’s when Barber tried kicking the officer.

Once in the patrol car, he made a threat and started kicking the window.

Barber is charged with terroristic threats and acts, felony obstruction, simple assault, and public drunk.
