A Cedartown man was arrested Monday after his vehicle struck a guardrail at Darlington Drive and Cedar Avenue.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
30-year-old Justin David Bennett Runyon fled the scene following the crash.
Suspected methamphetamine was found within Runyon’s immediate reach and it was discovered that he had an active warrant for his arrest.
Runyon is charged with hit and run, failure to maintain a lane, DUI, driving with a suspended license, and possession of methamphetamine.
He is also being held for the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office on the outstanding warrant.
Former inmate accused of trying to smuggle drugs into prison
An Aragon man is lodged in the Floyd County Jail on charges of attempt or conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Controlled Substances Act, possession of items prohibited for inmates, and use of a communications facility while committing a felony.
According to an arrest warrant and jail records:
51-year-old James Edward Hendrix conspired with other inmates and civilians to have 25.75 grams of methamphetamine, 106.9 grams of marijuana, and three pounds of tobacco placed at his work detail in the 500 block of Minshew Mountain Road in July of last year.
Hendrix planned to retrieve the items and smuggle them into the Floyd County Prison, where he was an inmate.
The conspiracy was largely facilitated over recorded phone calls which allowed investigators to intercept the contraband.
