Homeless man charged in burglary at Alto Park Elementary
A homeless man was arrested just before 4 p.m. Wednesday after he allegedly went onto the property of Alto Park Elementary School on Burnett Ferry Road with a machete and a smaller knife.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
59-year-old Burt Boyd McGee attempted to enter the school building by pulling the door handles with the weapons.
The report states he was trying to steal “pizza.”
McGee gave police a false name, but his real identity was determined using fingerprints.
McGee is charged with 2nd-degree burglary, criminal trespass, loitering or prowling, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, possession of weapons on school grounds, and giving a false name or date of birth to law enforcement.
Three charged in assault with a vehicle
A Rome woman was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault and loitering or prowling.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
33-year-old Caitlin Rae Whittle and two other people were on the Mason Lane property of a deceased person.
When confronted by a neighbor, Whittle tried to run over him with her vehicle.
The two other individuals with Whittle, 27-year-old Carl Edward McCleese III and 25-year-old Destiny Realynn McCleese, both of Rome, are charged with party to the crime of aggravated assault and loitering or prowling.
Traffic stop leads to drug arrests
Two Rome men were arrested during a traffic stop on Calhoun Avenue Tuesday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
36-year-old Dennis Lewis Turner Jr. and 32-year-old Devin Darell Burdette were found with two bags of synthetic marijuana and more than an ounce of actual marijuana, as well as a Springfield handgun.
Both men are convicted felons and both are charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Turner was additionally charged with improper lane change and a parole violation.
Three arrested during drug bust
The execution of a search warrant at a home on Oakmont Drive between Silver Creek and Cave Spring ended with the arrest of three people on drug charges Wednesday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force officers found methamphetamine, an edible psilocybin mushroom bar, less than an ounce of marijuana, and glass smoking devices.
29-year-old Hannah Kayne Carver, 60-year-old Kimberly Sue Carver, and 27-year-old Keylie Raine Johnson are all charged with possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug-related objects.
Kimberly Sue Carver was additionally charged with obstruction for refusing to obey orders and pulling away from an officer after being cleared for jail at Floyd Medical Center.
