Man accused of impersonating an officer

A 49-year-old Rome man was arrested at the connector and Highway 53 late last week on a felony count of impersonating an officer.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Terry Jason Rogers turned on the bumper lights of his vehicle, making another motorist believe they were being pulled over. That motorist called the police.

Rogers activated his amber lights again when stopped for a school bus and another vehicle was passing.

He turned on the rear light bar, rear alternating taillights, and headlights, trying to get the vehicle to stop.

Man charged with burglary

A 54-year-old Rome man was jailed over the weekend on charges of 2nd-degree burglary and criminal trespass.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Johnny Paul Green entered a business at 131 Highway 411 in Rome and took a woman’s purse containing car keys and a wallet.

In a separate incident, Green is accused of being at the Dollar General on Dean Avenue on November 27, despite being banned from the property in July.

Man charged with theft, other offenses

A 21-year-old Rome man is accused of taking money from a hotel on Chateau Drive.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Daymion Damier Watkins went behind the counter, and while the clerk was not paying attention, took $100 from a drawer.

Watkins was also found in possession of a firearm, oxycodone, and a wallet that had all been reported stolen.

The victim had called to report that someone had used his financial transaction card to rent a room at the hotel.

Watkins is charged with felony and misdemeanor counts of theft by receiving stolen property, as well as felony counts of financial transaction card theft, and possession of a controlled substance along with misdemeanor counts of theft by taking, and theft of lost or mislaid property.

Man charged with child cruelty

A Cave Spring man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with 2nd-degree cruelty to children.

According to the warrant:

27-year-old Sergio Edgardo Reyes spanked a three-year-old child twice, leaving a bruise in the shape of an adult-sized handprint.

Cave Spring man facing theft by receiving charge

A Cave Spring man is facing a felony count of theft by receiving stolen property following his arrest last week.

According to the arrest warrant:

66-year-old James Michael Moody allowed two other people to bring a stolen Polaris Ranger XP to his home on Angel Road and completed a purchase of the vehicle for $2,000.

A bill of sale completed at the time of the transaction insinuated that he paid over $10,000, which is the market value of the vehicle.

Moody reportedly admitted he knew the vehicle was probably stolen but he bought it because it was a good deal.

Traffic stop results in multiple charges for woman

A Lindale woman is facing multiple charges following her arrest Sunday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

A vehicle driven by 25-year-old Nakiya Tiyese Whitaker was stopped on Shorter Avenue at Williamson Street for going 60 in a 45 mph zone.

She was found with a gun, a digital scale, baggies for packaging narcotics, and less than an ounce of marijuana.

Whitaker refused orders from three officers to put her hands behind her back and was found with marijuana once at the jail.

She is charged with felony counts of crossing the guard line with drugs, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of drug-related objects, obstruction of law enforcement, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and speeding.
