Rome man wanted after fleeing law enforcement, shooting Bartow K9 deputy

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information regarding the whereabouts of a Rome man who fled from law enforcement and shot a K9 Deputy in Bartow County.

According to Bartow County Sheriff, Clark Millsap, on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at approximately 4:35 PM, Uniform Patrol and K9 Deputies observed a 2010 Honda Civic on Hwy 411 near the Interstate 75 interchange which was possibly occupied by 30-year-old Geoffry Frank Walker of Rome.

Walker was wanted for an outstanding warrant through Bartow County following a family violence incident that had occurred on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Cartersville Walmart (located at 101 Market Place Blvd in Cartersville). Walker also had additional warrants for another family violence and obstruction incident in Floyd County earlier in the day.

A vehicle pursuit ensued with the Honda Civic and Walker eventually fled on foot from deputies. Deputy K9 Athos was released by his handler to assist in the apprehension. Multiple shots were heard and K9 Athos was found injured.

K9 Athos was transported to a nearby Animal Hospital where he was treated for his injury.

Multi-Agency Law Enforcement assistance was provided and a perimeter was established in an attempt to locate and apprehend Walker but following a diligent search he was not located.

Walker is described as a 6’ 4”, 180 lbs., black, male, with short spiked gold bleached hair, last seen wearing gold/khaki pants, a white shirt, and a black and grey jacket.
