A busy agenda for the Rome Water and Sewer Committee on Thursday.

The committee will resume discussions regarding sewer service to Chulio Hills.

The project was sent back to the committee after it failed to make the final list of projects to be included in a special purpose, local option sales tax package that will go to voters in November.

Also during Thursday’s meeting, a rate study proposal will be discussed.

Rome Water and Sewer Division Director Mike Hackett and assistant director John Boyd will present a report called “Preparing for an R.O. Future” which will focus on the reverse osmosis plant that will be constructed on Riverside Parkway.

Funds from the water litigation settlement with carpet manufacturers, chemical companies, and others regarding PFAS in the Oostanaula River are going to pay for the facility.

As of the end of August, more than $154 million had been deposited in an account for the project, according to numbers from the Rome Finance Department. So far, just over $1.5 million has been spent on engineering and another $24,000 for legal expenses related to land and environmental issues.

Thursday’s water and sewer committee meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the Sam King Room at Rome City Hall.
