Report: Convicted felon had firearm

A 27-year old Rome man was arrested at Crane Street and East 13th Street Friday on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed weapon without a license.

According to Floyd County Jail records, sheriff’s deputies were conducting gang intel research and got out with a validated gang member.

During a patdown, a Taurus 9mm was located in the right pants pocket of Daniel Jacory Williams who, according to the report, is a convicted felon.
 

Woman charged with drug possession

A Rome woman was arrested Friday on felony warrants charging her with drug possession following a traffic stop earlier in the week.

According to the warrants, 39-year old Elizabeth Ann Newberry of a Maple Road address had five hydrocodone tablets and one oxycodone pill.

Newberry admitted that she did not have a prescription for the medication and had gotten the drugs from another person, who was not named.

She was charged with possession of a controlled substances and possession of pills not in the original container.

Additionally, when inside the Floyd County Jail, Newberry reportedly dropped a pill on the floor, resulting in an additional charge of crossing the guard line with drugs.

 

Woman charged with hindering apprehension

A 25-year old Jasper, Georgia woman is facing a felony count of hindering the apprehension of a criminal following her arrest late Saturday.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Tiffany Nicole Scoggins gave false information to police regarding a wanted person’s identity and was observed fleeing on foot after a traffic stop.

The incident occurred on Monday of last week on Redmond Road, according to the report.
