The Chattooga County Sheriff’s department is looking for a man who escaped custody earlier this week.

Twenty-year-old Jimmy “Jauan” Adams was brought into the Chattooga County Jail earlier this week on a misdemeanor battery charge. While at the jail, Adams bolted from a deputy’s patrol car and fled through town. Deputies were unable to locate Adams on Monday.

Earlier this (Friday) morning, Chief Deputy Kevin Woods, acting on tips, found Adams sleeping in the woods off McWhorter Road near Menlo. Chief Deputy Woods attempted to bring Adams in, but Adams was able to get away again today.

The sheriff’s department has K-9 units and deputies searching the area of McWhorter, Garvin and Buck Gardner Roads, looking for Adams this afternoon.

Sheriff Mark Schrader says that if anyone has seen Adams or knows his whereabouts, or any tips on locating the suspect, they are asked to call 911 or the sheriff’s department at 706-857-3411.
