Man charged in Tuesday night wreck

The Georgia State Patrol has charged a man in connection with a wreck that sent two people to the hospital.

The wreck occurred on Highway 27 North and Highway 140 at around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the GSP, a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado driven by 62-year old Earnest Irvin Greenleaf of Shannon was traveling south, turning left onto GA 140.

A 1992 Buick LeSabre driven by 77-year old Jean Deloris Hammonds of Summerville was traveling north on U.S. 27 in the outside lane.

The Colorado turned in front of the Buick, striking LeSabre in the front with its front.

Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled final rest facing north in the northbound lanes.

Hammonds and her passenger, 83-year old Charles Edward Hammonds of Trion were both transported to Floyd Medical Center.

Greenleaf was jailed Thursday and is charged with two counts of serious injury by vehicle, DUI, open container, and failure to yield while turning left.
